A balanced controlled-release fertiliser in granule form. Each granule releases nutrients gradually with watering and warmth, and one application feeds for about eight months, which covers a full growing season.
Granular bonsai substrates drain freely and hold few nutrients, and frequent watering washes liquid feed through quickly. Controlled-release granules sit on the surface and meter out a steady low dose with every watering instead, so the tree is fed without spikes.
Top-dress at the start of the growing season: scatter the granules over the surface of the substrate and water as normal. Release speeds up in warm weather and slows in cold, tracking when the tree is actually growing.
