Bonsai Supplies sells graded substrate, tools and accessories to bonsai growers across Australia.

The shop is run by Tony and a small team of fellow bonsai growers in Brisbane. Tony has been growing bonsai for over twenty years.

The Japanese substrates (akadama, kanuma, pumice and kiryuzuna) are imported, and the house mixes are blended here. Every bag is sifted to a single particle size and washed of dust before it is packed.

That preparation matters. Grading a substrate to one particle size keeps its pore structure open and even, and washing out the fine dust stops it clogging and holding water against the roots. The result is a bag you can open and pot straight into.
